It’s hard not to be tempted by Tesco’s cheapest netbook offer yet. The Lenovo S9E is a refurbished model but carries a tiny price tag (£119 including delivery) and a smaller than average 8.9in display (compared to the 10.1in models we usually see).
It comes with a full one-year warranty, Windows XP, Bluetooth, 80GB 5,400rpm hard drive, two USB ports, 1GB of RAM, a 1,024 x 600 screen resolution and an Intel 945GSE Express chipset with GMA 950 graphics subsystem and VGA out. There's also Wi-Fi, a card reader, a webcam, and a 6-cell battery. There's an Ethernet port, too, but no HDMI port.
The netbook is powered by the four-year-old Intel Atom N270 processor that runs at 1.6GHz with 512KB L2 cache. At more than 20mm thick and weighing around 1.3Kg, it can be best described as being stocky.
Lenovo has included a utility that allows quick access to the web, photos, chat and Skype without booting into Windows.
