A real rival to the Google Nexus 7: Motorola XOOM 2 Media Edition tablet now down to £149

UK Retailer Carphone Warehouse has just cut the price of the Motorola XOOM 2 Media Edition tablet to a mere £149 including delivery with the offer ending 20 August.

This reduction means that the price of the XOOM 2 M.E is less than half what it was at launch and a full £50 less than the 16GB Google Nexus 7.

Motorola’s tablet comes with a dual-core TI OMAP4430 processor clocked at 1.2GHz (rather than a quad-core Nvidia Tegra 3), 1GB of RAM, 16GB onboard storage, an 8.2in 1,280 x 800 display, Wi-Fi, a 3900mAh battery (up to eight hour battery life), adaptive virtual surround sound, a splash-guard coating, universal Dijit remote control, a rear 5-megapixel camera with LED flash, a 1.3-megapixel front facing camera, Bluetooth, DLNA and full HD video capture.

The XOOM 2 has an anodised aluminium finish and a svelte 8.9mm girth. The device runs on Android 3.2 Honeycomb with an upgrade to Jelly Bean likely to happen early next year, but just like the Nexus 7, it doesn’t have a microSD card slot.
