Samsung didn’t have the Ativ S at IFA and the only pictures we could procure were from the Unpacked at IFA 2012 event.
One slide from the presentation dished out all the main features of the smartphone. It has a 4.8in HD Super AMOLED display, with a resolution of 1,280 x 720; this is almost certainly the same screen as the Samsung Galaxy S3.
The phone is 137.2mm tall, 70.5mm wide and only 8.7mm thick, roughly the same as Samsung’s flagship Android smartphone.
Other features include NFC capabilities, a 2300mAh battery, an 8-megapixel camera, a Windows 8-like home button, 4G capabilities and full Microsoft Office.
The system-on-chip in the Ativ S is almost certainly a Qualcomm Snapdragon model because of the 4G capability. We believe that it could be a dual-core rather than a quad-core model, possibly the MSM8960.
Samsung has decided to stick to a Galaxy S2-esque design as opposed to the more rounded finish seen on the Galaxy S3. Could it be because Samsung will look to pitch the Ativ S to business customers and will differentiate the two brands through their designs?
