Western Digital introduces My Passport Edge drives for PCs and Macs

Western Digital today introduced its new line of compact pocket hard drives for the Windows PC and Mac markets.

The Western Digital My Passport Edge and My Passport Edge for Mac come in 500GB capacities with USB 2.0/3.0 compatibility. Both drives come with pre-loaded software and extra utilities for security.

The My Passport Edge (PC version) is compact, coming in at 3.2in by 4.3in by 0.5in (HWD), along with a removable USB 3.0 cable. Its 500GB capacity is enough for over 100 DVD-quality videos or tens of thousands of audio files. The drive comes with WD SmartWare for Windows, which provides "continuous and automatic backup" of the files on your PC. The drive is bus-powered, so it doesn't need a power cord.

The My Passport Edge for Mac is a bit slimmer thanks to its all-aluminium construction, shaving off 0.1in in thickness. It also comes with a USB 3.0 cable and is fully compatible with OS X Time Machine backup.

Both drives come with three-year warranties and are available now on Western Digital's website and other online retailers. Both drives come with WD Security software for added encryption.

The My Passport Edge goes for £99.90 and the My Passport Edge for Mac is £109.90.
