Ainol Novo manufactures some great tablets and the Novo 7 Fire is one of them. UK retailer Futeko is selling them for a mere £120 and although there are a couple of niggles, they should be solved thanks to a forthcoming Firmware update.
This device comes with a dual-core Amlogic 8726-M6 clocked at 1.5GHz, which is based on the Cortex-A9, and has two Mali-400 GPU cores. Tests have shown that it is apparently as fast as, if not faster than, the Samsung Galaxy Note or the Galaxy S2.
Other features include a 7in 1,280 x 800 resolution IPS display, 1GB of RAM, 16GB onboard storage, a microSD card slot, Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich with full Google Play access, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, a 5,000mAh battery, a rear 5-megapixel camera and a front 2-megapixel camera, a mini-HDMI and mini-USB port. A 32GB upgrade is the most sensible upgrade at around £10.
Note that there’s no GPS and that the device weighs 355g. Otherwise, it is a very capable device that could give the HTC Flyer and the Amazon Kindle Fire a run for their money.
