Japanese manufacturer Canon has announced a new fleet of A3 multi-functional devices (MFDs) that come with a range of software solutions seeking to enhance convenience and productivity for businesses of all sizes.
Canon says it is moving with business trends by focusing on mobile and cloud connectivity, which make for greater versatility when scanning and printing in the age of BYOD and remote working.
Thanks to ‘Canon Mobile Printing’, compatibility with iOS devices as well as Google’s online suite of email, documents etc is enhanced, making printing tasks easier and more efficient. The ‘eCopy Scan to Cloud’ feature meanwhile, allows customers to scan, convert and send to other cloud-based services such as DropBox and SalesForce.com.
The firm notes that other features that have previously been optional on MFDs, such as searchable scan file formats and secure hard disk erase, now come as standard on the new imageRUNNER Advance models. Canon’s server-less login solution – dubbed Universal Login Manager – is also available across all devices in the series, strengthening personalisation and security on the MFD. Integrated barcode- and card-readers on the hardware make for quick and simple logins without the hassle of typing in usernames and passwords.
The new devices refresh the original imageRUNNER Advance line up that has sold around 250,000 units across EMEA since its 2009 launch. Six new series are set to hit the market in two batches: the C5200, 6200 and 8200 range arrives at the start of October, and the C2200, C7200 and C9200 lines are available from November. All software will be available in October 2012, with the exception of eCopy Scan to Cloud and Canon Mobile Printing, which will be available in “Q4 and December respectively,” according to Canon.
“The launch of the second generation imageRUNNER Advance platform opens the door to a number of exciting, new revenue opportunities for our partners,” says Alex Thurgood, European & UK Channel Marketing Manager, at Canon. “At a time when our partners are seeking to evolve their business to become more solutions and services-led, the new platform will help them to achieve more value from their customer relationships by offering scalable solutions through a powerful combination of software and services.”
