Even though Toshiba designs its own laptops, it has a range of universal port replicators/docking stations that can be used with other products too, even if they’re rivals. The Toshiba Dynadock USB 3.0 is a great example, and one that costs just over £108 at Ebuyer.
It is very compact, measuring 114 x 130mm at its base and weighing only 530g. It incorporates a 5.1 channel surround sound card, a GbE Ethernet adaptor, four USB 3.0 ports, a line-in plug, a headphone socket, two USB 2.0 ports, HDMI, DVI and audio line out.
It also includes a DVI to VGA adaptor and a USB 3.0 cable and comes with a two year warranty. Note that you will need Windows XP OS or better and at least 1GB of RAM. USB 3.0 is recommended as the device will use Displaylink to power up to two monitors (plus your laptop screen).
Its maximum screen resolution for two screens is 2,048 x 1,152 pixels and because it requires a USB port, one may need a fairly powerful processor in order to make the most out of it. Also note that the Dynadock doesn’t provide power to run the laptop or to charge its battery.
