British electronics company Pure has unveiled a new multi-room audio system that it describes as the world’s most affordable and mainstream. At a press event in London, the company showed off the ‘Jongo’ system, through which users will able to synchronously stream music and other audio from a single source to multiple devices.
The multi-room ecosystem incorporates Pure’s new Pure Connect app for iOS and Android, a brand-new portable speaker called Jongo S340B, and backwards support for existing Pure devices such as Sensia 200D Connect, Contour 200i Air and One Flow.
Jongo S340B is a compact wireless speaker boasting four tweeters and a subwoofer, and can be used as a single unit or grouped with multiple Jongo S340B speakers and/or existing Pure products. It comes packed with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth as streaming options, and ships with a rechargeable battery pack promising ten hours of battery life.
The device offers four audio profiles optimised for different uses, including 360 degree sound in either stereo or mono, forward-facing stereo mode, and a 360 degree outdoor boost, all of which can be toggled between by pressing a button on the speaker itself.
The company's free Pure Connect app - which will be updated for iPad this month and for iPhone and Android before the end of the year - allows users to control their multi- or single-room audio playblack. It also offers access to Pure Music, a subscription service powered by 7digital and offering unlimited streaming for £4.99 per month, and Pure Tag, a free music identification service.
“The design and user-experience that the new Pure Connect app delivers elevates it to be a best-in-class audio service. Pure Connect offers a wealth of great content, while allowing users to explore related content and enjoy tailored recommendations. All this coupled with the customisation controls users are accustomed to, has delivered a compelling new service for music lovers,” said Pure marketing director Colin Crawford.
Jongo S340B will retail for £149.99 and will begin shipping next month. Eager customers can pre-order the speaker from Amazon and other retailers as of the end of this week. It will be available in black and white and in stylish shades of yellow, orange and green.
Pure is quick to point out that Jongo S340B is the first in its line of multi-room offerings and has promised that more speakers and a hi-fi adapter will join the Jongo line over the next few months.
