Google has issued invitations to an Android event that will be held on 29 October. The event will be held in New York City and will be live-streamed on YouTube but there is no word on what Google plans to showcase. The date, however, does seem to coincide with rumoured launch of the LG Nexus smartphone.
LG is believed to be the next manufacturer of Google's flagship smartphone with little information on possible specs currently available. However, LG is not the sole hardware manufacturer in contention to deliver the next Nexus handset.
Earlier this month, Xperia blog (opens in new tab) leaked photos of a prototype Nexus phone being manufactured by Sony. Dubbed the ‘Nexus X’, images detail a handset that is designed in accordance to the current Sony form factor and is emblazoned with a Google logo on its back. The pictures cannot be confirmed but do seem to support industry rumours claiming that Google is working on Nexus hardware with a number of manufacturers.
(opens in new tab)The Android event will commence the week after the Apple and Windows 8 launches. The Apple event will be of particular interest to Google as it is expected to launch the Nexus 7 competitor; iPad mini. Google may decide to use its subsequent event to highlight the 32GB Nexus 7 model, which is already slated for a UK release later in the week.
