You can bag Netgear’s ReadyNAS NV+ network attached storage for as little as £145, almost half its suggested retail price, from Dabs.
The NAS supports multiple hardware accelerated RAID levels (0, 1 and 5) plus Netgear’s own X-RAID2 technology which automates volume expansion when moving from one drive to four, allowing you to rebuild the array gradually, something which means that the NV+ v2 is more future proof than most of its rivals, according to Netgear.
Other features include a web browser interface and a setup wizard (something which can be found in most entry level NASes), a single-core Marvell SoC cloked at 1.6GHz, 256MB of RAM, support for SATA300 3TB hard drives, a GbE LAN, one USB 2.0 port at the front and three USB 3.0 ones at the back.
As expected it is hotswappable, comes with DLNA compatibility, a backup application (Memeo Premium Backup), a three-year warranty and a rather compact chassis (205 x 134 x 223mm). Note that it also comes with a status LCD display and a 90W PSU.
