Asus VivoBook S200E Netbook looks like an UltraBook, on pre-order for £400

Meet the Asus S200E-C157H, an 11.6in laptop with a touchscreen display and undoubtedly one of the best-looking ones we’ve seen recently. It also costs only £400, making it one of the cheapest laptops to come with Microsoft’s brand new Windows 8 operating system. Currys currently has it on pre-order with a delivery date set for 3 November.

The laptop is powered by a Sandy-Bridge-based Intel Pentium B987 processor with two cores, a clock speed of 1.9GHz (turbo boosted to 3GHz), 3MB cache and an Intel HD Graphics 3000 graphics unit.

Additionally, there's 4GB of RAM, a 500GB hard disk drive, three USB ports (one of them USB 3.0), an SD card, Bluetooth, a HDMI and VGA port, a 5-megapixel webcam, Wi-Fi, an Intel HM70 Express graphics processor, an illuminated island-style keyboard and Sonic Master audio technology.

However, the main selling point is an 11.6in 1,366 x 768 touchscreen display featuring 10-finger touch support. The S200E-C157H weighs a mere 1.3kg and is only 21mm thick.

Asus also claims that it can resume operation in two seconds thanks to 'Instant On' technology, stay in standby mode for two hours and stay usable for up to five hours.

Note though that it doesn’t come with an Ethernet port.
