The Compaq Presario CQ58-255SA is the cheapest Windows 8 laptop we’ve managed to track; one that costs only £300 including delivery. The product is on sale at HP direct and will be shipped from 26 October.
The laptop comes with an Intel Celeron B830 processor, one that comes with two cores clocked at 1.8GHz with 2MB L3 cache. There’s also 4GB of RAM, an Intel HM70 Express chipset, Intel HD graphics (which uses up to 1.65GB of system RAM), a 320GB hard disk drive spinning at 5400ROM, a card reader, an Ethernet port, Wi-Fi, a 15.6in Brightview LED backlit display (with a 1,366 x 768 pixels resolution), Altec Lansing speakers, a 6-cell battery, a HD webcam, Bluetooth, VGA, HDMI and three USB ports, plus a one year warranty.
Other features include trial versions to Symantec Norton Internet Security 2013 (60 days); HP Connected Music powered by Universal Music Group (90 days) as well as full versions of Cyberlink Power DVD, Amazon Kindle and Microsoft Office 2010 Starter Edition.
HP chose to adopt a black liquorice colour scheme for the CQ58, one that comes with added glossiness and a conservative look.
