Anonymous hacks police private emails

The hacking collective Anonymous is reportedly under investigation for illegally obtaining the private email addresses of currently serving police officers. An investigation will now be conducted by the Metropolitan Police Central e-Crime unit.

According to the Telegraph, the email addresses were obtained from a non affiliated web forum, meaning no official computer systems were breached. Anonymous then emailed the officers directly, calling for the police to “stand with us”.

The emails pleaded for cooperation in an upcoming event planned for next month, and referred to the recipients as “Brothers in arms”.

"All officers within the organisation have been advised to take precautionary steps to protect the security of their personal email accounts," said a spokesperson for the Metropolitan police.

The incident follows a recent attack on Italian State police, which suffered a direct breach of its system as Anonymous' Italian arm leaked thousands of classified documents onto the internet.
