GTA V launch details and pre-order date confirmed by Rockstar

Grand Theft Auto V, the forthcoming addition to one of the world's most successful gaming franchises, is set to become available for pre-order from 5 November, 2012, ahead of a confirmed worldwide launch in spring 2013.

Games developer Rockstar said that a raft of fresh GTA V information will accompany the commencement of pre-ordering next week, with cover art expected to be revealed then and a more concrete release date hoped for.

At present, a limited amount of GTA V screenshots have been released by Rockstar (opens in new tab), with an official trailer (see bottom) the most substantial teaser content to have gone viral to date.

"Grand Theft Auto V takes place in a re-imagined, present-day Southern California in the largest and most thriving game-world we have ever created set in the sprawling city of Los Santos and for miles beyond – from the tops of the mountains to the depths of the ocean," Rockstar commented in a blog post (opens in new tab).

However, much to the ire of PC gamers (opens in new tab), the new GTA title will initially only be released for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 consoles, with no word from Rockstar on when its latest gangster epic will hit desktops.

Rockstar is also thought to be working on reinventing one of its older classics, GTA Vice City, for Android and iOS platforms, following the success of a mobile version of GTA III earlier this year.
