Nokia and upmarket British retailer Selfridges have teamed up to sell the Windows Phone 8-powered Lumia 820 along with the Nokia Purity Pro headset by Monster (worth £199) for £380 via Carphone Warehouse’s concession in-store. The phone will be launched in red, white and black on 9 November and was unveiled at the beginning of September at an exclusive event in New York.
The Lumia 820 replaces the Lumia 800 and is the smaller brother of the Lumia 920 (check out our comparison of these handsets, as well as our hands on the Lumia 820 and the Lumia 920). In addition to the Windows Phone 8 OS, Nokia has bundled a few exclusive applications like Nokia Drive, Nokia Maps, Nokia Music and City Lens.
As for the phone itself, it is powered by a dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon system-on-chip, the MSM8960, which is clocked at 1.5GHz, 1GB of RAM. It boasts a 4.3in 800 x 480 pixel display with ClearBlack technology, 8GB onboard storage, a microSD card slot, an 8-megapixel rear camera and a front-facing one.
The phone is already available for pre-order on Orange with a handful of minutes and texts for as little as £20.50 per month.
