Leaked images of 5in Sony Yuga handset hit the web

Sony's Yuga smartphone has appeared online in leaked images that suggest it may be a serious competitor to the Google Nexus 4 and the Samsung Galaxy Note 2.

According to the leaked images, which surfaced on Swiss blog Android Schweiz, the unconfirmed device, dubbed Sony C6603, is likely to run on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and boasts some impressive specs.

The smartphone is rumoured to have a 5in Full HD display with a 1,920 x 1,080 pixel resolution. Additionally, it will likely feature a 1.5GHz quad-core processor (a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4), 2GB of RAM as well as a 12-megapixel rear-facing camera. The leaked pictures show a glass chassis suggesting that the handset will not allow access to the battery. It is also rumoured to contain a microSD slot and a micro HDMI output.

Though Sony has not yet acknowledged its existence, the device is expected to be released as the Japanese firm's new flagship handset in January 2013. Tech insiders are predicting its unveiling at the Las Vegas CES conference in January or Mobile World Congress in Barcelona the following month.
