Android 4.2 update hitting Google Nexus 7 & Galaxy Nexus

Google's new lineup of Nexus devices made their official debut yesterday, but it appears that consumers with older Nexus gadgets are also getting a treat: Android 4.2.

The update is reportedly rolling out to the Galaxy Nexus smartphone and original Nexus 7 tablet.

As noted by Android Police, the update is ready for the 7in Google tablet. If you don't want to wait for it to hit your device, though, the blog has instructions for a manual download. Your tablet must be running Android 4.1.2 build JZO54K for it to work.

Android 4.2 is also rolling out to the Galaxy Nexus smartphone, though apparently only to those devices that were purchased via the Google Play store - also known as the Takju variant, Android Police said in a separate post.

Samsung, meanwhile, told ZDNet that it is considering an Android 4.2 upgrade for the Galaxy S3. The smartphone only just started receiving the Android Jelly Bean 4.1.1 update last month, however.

The new Nexus devices launched on Tuesday - the Nexus 4 smartphone, Nexus 10 tablet, and revamped Nexus 7 tablet - all come with Android 4.2.
