Grand Theft Auto V has been given a second trailer that reveals more information about what to expect from the game's storyline. The trailer clocks in at 1:51 minutes and revolves around the intertwining misadventures of the games three main protagonists.
The new trailer introduces us to Michael, Trevor and Franklin - the game's three main controllable characters - via a series of short intersecting vignettes that gives us insight to their individual situations and relationship to one another. Michael is not enjoying fatherhood as he finds his son to be a chronic disappointment, Trevor must deal with a rival gang that is trying to sell drugs on his territory, and Franklin seemingly holds ambitions beyond his current role as a car thief.
Michael also functions as the catalyst for the group coming together since Trevor is “his best friend” and Franklin is “the son he always wanted”.
"The three heroes are all playing out their own conflicting roles, and it makes for a deeper and more complex story than before,” Dan Houser, GTA V writer said in an interview with Famitsu , translated by Polygon.
“I'd like you to think of it as a new story, one that you've never experienced not just in games but in any other genre.”
As you can intimate from the description, this trailer is more akin to a Hollywood crime movie than a game, but that is not to say that gaming elements are not present. The action montage that contains a bank heist, a plane ride, a train crash and a character abseiling down the side of a skyscraper, demonstrates the upcoming gaming scenarios.
The games graphics also seem to have stepped up from the previous GTA installment, as the realism and nuance of the character models are reminiscent of those in a previous Rockstar game, L.A. Noire.
GTA V is expected to be released in the spring of 2013 on all current-gen platforms.
