Has Google cancelled Christmas? Android 4.2 Jelly Bean app wipes December from calendar

Back in 2007, Facebook was accused of ruining Christmas with its Beacon feature. Is it Google's turn?

Not exactly, but it appears that the People app within Android 4.2 Jelly Bean wants to kick off the New Year a bit early. Those who want to enter in a December birthday or anniversary are out of luck since the app skips right over December and moves from November to January.

As you can see in the attached screen shots, the problem does not affect the Android 4.2 calendar app (top right) - December is alive and well there. But flip over to the People app (top left) and 2013 kicks off in less than two weeks.

Google did not immediately respond to a request for comment, but as Android Police pointed out, the company has acknowledged the problem on the Android forums. The problem was first reported by user Rohit on 14 November, who has a Galaxy Nexus running Android 4.2.

"Today I was inserting birthday of a friend in my contact list so that I can sync the birthdays in my calendar," he wrote. "I noticed that the December month is missing. When I pressed new event the calendar came but it was not having the option for the month December."

Others chimed in that they were experiencing the same problem, while a user with the Galaxy Nexus running Android 4.1.1 did not.

A Google staffer added to the thread yesterday, writing only that the company was "tracking" the bug.
