Archos has released a new tablet called the FamilyPad and unlike most of the models on the market, it comes with a massive 13.3in screen size, the same as many Ultrabooks on the market.
It is not the first tablet to come with such a big screen. Back in April, Toshiba unveiled the Excite 13 which has a mammoth 13.3in screen.
The tablet is being presented as a family tablet where, according to Archos, “Families can sit down and play digital board games, watch movies, share pictures or connect to social networks together”.
The timing of the launch, only a few weeks before Christmas leaves no doubt as to the audience this tablet is aimed for. The FamilyPad will go on sale in December for £275.
Its screen has a 1,280 x 800 resolution with 10-points Multitouch. It runs on a Cortex-A8 system-on-chip with 1GB of RAM and 8GB onboard storage. Other features include Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, microHDMI and microUSB connectors, microSD slot plus two 2-megapixel front and rear cameras.
Archos recently unveiled a new tablet called the 101 XS which came with a bundled coverboard that converts it into a pseudo-laptop and there are even rumours that it will launch a Windows RT version of that tablet.
