Despite the recent launch of the Wii U console, Nintendo has seen disappointing sales for its exclusive titles with none of them breaking into the top 10. This news comes after earlier reports that Nintendo’s profit margins will be dependent on game sales for the onset of this console generation.
According to home entertainment retail research firm, GfK Chart-Track, Nintendo Land was the Japanese developer’s best-performing exclusive title, coming in at No.11.
Stalwart brand Mario couldn’t capitalise on its cache of nostalgia as New Super Mario Bros. U was No.14 and the critically acclaimed Zombi U had to settle for No.16 on its debut weekend.
Further reports have surfaced suggesting that the Wii U’s initial system sales have not surpassed 40,000 units in the UK. If proven true it will be less than half the amount of its predecessor the Wii, which sold 105,000 units during the first 48 hours of its 2006 launch.
