EE will be retailing Android devices pre-installed with Lookout Mobile Security in the UK from early 2013. Subsidiaries T-Mobile and Orange will also be offering obligatory anti-malware protection, which operates in the background of an enabled device, providing threat warnings and system diagnostics – much like conventional PC security.
The new sales policy comes as consequence of a “strategic investment” in the security firm from venture capital subsidiary, Orange & Publicis. The deal is reportedly estimated to be worth £12.5 million.
“By partnering with and investing in Lookout, we are ensuring that we will continue to help keep our customers safe in the future, and that the Orange & Publicis fund managed by Iris Capital is supporting a company that is positioned to become a global leader in the digital economy,” said Paul-François Fournier, Orange Technocentre’s executive vice president.
The protected handsets will also be rolled out in France, Slovakia and Spain in 2013.
