Sony Xperia U costs £149, comes with £50 gift card

The Sony Xperia U smartphone is quickly becoming our entry-level favourite despite the fact that it has at least one big flaw - its lack of a microSD card slot. Other than that, this smaller-than-average smartphone ticks all the boxes that makes it the perfect budget handset.

Asda sells it for £149 with free standard delivery and a free £50 Asda gift card that brings the price down to £99 (assuming you make a £50 purchase from Asda). Note that you can get a refurbished version of the phone from E2Save as well for £109.90, a price that includes £10 top up on Vodafone.

The Xperia U, which was launched back in February, comes with a dual-core ST-Ericsson U8500 system-on-chip clocked at 1GHz, with 512MB of RAM, 8GB onboard storage and 50GB online storage for life via Check out the review of the Sony Xperia U smartphone on

There’s also a 5-megapixel camera that can record in full HD resolution, a 3.5in Retina Display with a 854x480 pixel resolution and powered by the mobile BRAVIA engine and access to Sony Entertainment Network for 60 days. The phone is locked on O2 and features a colour-changing, illuminating transparent bar.
