Amazon Kindle Fire tablet down to £99

UK Retailer Argos is offering the new version of the Amazon Kindle tablet for £99, with the ability to get a £10 voucher when you spend an additional £1.05 extra plus free subscription to Lovefilm for 30 days. Note that the offer doesn’t include delivery and that Argos gives you a free six-months credit when you take their Argos card.

This is the newer Kindle which means that it runs on a dual-core TI OMAP4430 system-on-chip clocked at 1.2GHz with 1GB of RAM and 8GB onboard storage. There’s a 1,024x600 pixels IPS display, a USB port, up to nine hours battery life and unlimited cloud storage for Amazon content.

The tablet is based on the RIM BlackBerry PlayBook, which was released more than two years ago. It is a mere 11.5mm thick and weighs less than 400 grams. The Kindle Fire has been superseded by the new Amazon Kindle Fire HD which has a higher resolution screen and a more powerful processor.

The Kindle Fire is likely to be one of the best selling tablets on the market since it outperforms most sub-£100 models when it comes to quality and performance. But bear in mind it doesn’t have a card reader, any camera (rear or front) or a HDMI port.
