Don’t let the fact that this Toshiba Satellite C855 is a refurbished laptop turn you off. It comes with a full year warranty and has run through Argos’ certified testing facilities before being put back on sale via its outlet on eBay. And at £300 with free delivery and 300 Nectar points, it is a genuine bargain.
It is powered by an Intel dual-core Celeron B815 which is clocked at 1.6GHz, a Celeron that is infinitely more powerful than its predecessors. There’s also 6GB of RAM (with Toshiba choosing to have a 2GB+4GB pair), 1TB hard disk drive, a 15.6in 1,366x768 pixel display, a DVD writer, a card reader, three USB ports (including a USB 3.0 one), an Ethernet port HDMI port, webcam and Windows 7 Home Premium OS.
Toshiba claims that it has a battery life of up to 320 minutes. And while it is just outside Ultrabook territory with a weight of 2.3Kg, its thickness (at 33.5mm) is twice that of the likes of the Toshiba Satellite Z830.
That said, this laptop is one of the best models under £300, especially when pitched against AMD’s netbook like models. and bearing in mind that an extra 50 per cent more system memory comes handy when some of it is earmarked for the graphics subsystem.
