Yahoo! Mail receives facelift

Yahoo! has redesigned its email service to optimise its speed of use and simplify the experience, as explained in a blog post by company CEO, Marissa Mayer. The upgrade will affect all iterations of Yahoo! Mail on all major platforms including iOS, Android, and Windows 8, as well as standard web browsers.

“You’ve told us loud and clear that you want fewer distractions when it comes to email. You want to quickly login, communicate, and get on with your day. And we’ve listened,” said Mayer.

“We’ve redesigned the new version of Yahoo! Mail with speed in mind -- getting through your emails is faster than ever before… Yahoo! Mail now has a consistent look and feel across devices,” continued the ex-Google chief.

The claims of increased speed are due to improvements made to the underlying processes responsible for loading the inbox and composing and sending emails, which Yahoo! estimates will save its user base a combined 36 million minutes a day, according to the Verge.

The new-look Yahoo! Mail will be rolled out over the next few days, with dedicated mobile apps now available on iOS, Windows Phone and an upgraded Android application – whose improvements include a battery drain reduction of 20 to 40 per cent.
