Samsung Galaxy S 4.2in iPod Touch Rival price-crunched to £72

Samsung’s equivalent to Apple’s popular iPod Touch media player is the Galaxy S 4.2 MP3 Player, and this little chap is on sale at Currys for a mere £72 by using the code MPLAY10 at check out. The price includes free delivery.

In a nutshell, the Galaxy S 4.2 is the Galaxy S (smartphone) minus its phone capabilities.

It has a single core system-on-chip clocked at 1GHz, 8GB onboard storage, 512MB of RAM, a microSD card slot, a detachable battery that can power the media player for up to six hours, Android 2.3 Gingerbread, a 4.2in 800 x 480 resolution, a 2-megapixel camera, a front facing VGA camera, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, DLNA and AllShare compatibility, FM radio and a microUSB 2.0 port.

Samsung has also bundled some useful apps like FIFA 2012, Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit and its very own ChatOn instant messaging service. Users will be able to make calls using a VoIP application like Skype or Rebtel (provided you have Wi-Fi access). Note that it is only 9mm thick and weighs a mere 118g.

Last month, we reported that the media player, the design reminds us of the Galaxy S2, costing £100 on eBay with some added goodies (SatNav GPS app, changeable covers and premium headphones).
