Christmas Ultrabook deals: £200 off Lenovo IdeaPad U310 & Acer Aspire S3 with Intel Core i5 down to £500

Think of Christmas and a number of things may come to mind - aromatic mulled wine, rich mince pies, and pungent Stilton cheese being some of the more common festive associations.

Stunning Ultrabook deals may not have featured prominently in years past, but those acting as a slightly nerdy Santa Claus in 2012 will find that there are some fantastic bargains to be had in the super-slim laptop market this annum.

For starters, Chinese computing giant Lenovo is offering its IdeaPad U310 for just £400 via a special Christmas eCoupon giving you £200 off the suggested retail price.

The 13.3in device - released in June 2012 - sports a 1,366 x 768 LED display and features Intel Core i3 architecture, complete with HD graphics and supported by 4GB of RAM and 3M cache. The U310 (see image, top) has a 500GB hard drive and an SSD card slot, while connectivity options include two USB 3.0 ports, one USB 2.0 socket, an HDMI output, and integrated Bluetooth connectivity.

Running Windows 7 Home Premium - which some consumers may prefer to Microsoft's radically overhauled new Windows 8 OS - the Lenovo IdeaPad U310 is the epitome of portability at under 18mm thick and a mere 1.7Kg. Three flavours are available as part of the deal: professional Graphite Grey, snazzy Aqua Blue, and sexy Cherry Pink.

With up to 7 hours of battery life according to the manufacturer, it's surely one of the best laptop deals we've seen in a while - and it's straight from the manufacturer with a one-year warranty.

Those after an Ultrabook with slightly higher end specifications also have good cause to rejoice, as the 13.3in Acer Aspire S3-391 (below) is now down to just £500 via, a massive discount from its regular retail price of £750.

For your money, you'll get a device that weighs a featherlight 1.35Kg, is 13mm slim, and packs an Intel Core i5 setup featuring integrated HD graphics and supported by 4GB of RAM. There's also two USB 3.0 slots and an HDMI port, and you'll get Windows 7 Home Premium as well as a 1,366 x 768 LED screen.

Only the S3-391's battery life can be said to be less than superb, with Acer quoting an expected single-charge life of 3.5 hours. If that's a compromise you're happy to make, you'll find it hard to nab a better bargain at this particular price-point.

Whatever type of device you're after, there are clearly some great deals to be had this holiday season, and those interested in purchasing a new portable PC this year are heartily encouraged to check out our "Best laptops for Christmas 2012" feature.
