If you are on a budget and looking for a laptop with a fast processor, then check out the Acer Aspire E1, an entry level model from the Taiwanese manufacturer on sale at Amazon for only £330, a £70 saving off its suggested retail price.
The device is one of the cheapest models to run an Ivy Bridge-based processor - the Intel Core i5-3210, clocked at 2.5GHz with two cores. There’s also 4GB of RAM, though we’d prefer to have 8GB, given that a significant fraction will be allocated to the onboard Intel HD 4000 Graphics subsystem.
Other features include a 500GB hard disk drive, HDMI, three USB ports, a DVD writer, GbE LAN, Wi-Fi, a webcam, Windows 8, a card reader, a 15.6in 1,366 x 768 pixel display, a multi-gesture touchpad plus a backup manager.
It’s worth noting that the laptop - which is currently Amazon’s best-selling model - doesn’t have a separate numeric keypad.
