£260 Zoostorm 7873-9040 laptop: exceptional value for money

It’s hard not to be impressed by the sheer amount of hardware that Ebuyer’s Zoostorm 7873-9040 delivers for not a lot of money.

The laptop costs £260.49 (on Ebuyer’s eBay outlet) or £259.99 (on Ebuyer’s website), both come with free delivery and purchasing form eBay gets you 260 Nectar points.

Note though that it doesn’t come with an operating system, which is ideal should you want to adopt a Linux OS. Getting Windows should add as little as £50 to the bottom line.

What do you get for that price? A dual-core Intel Pentium B980 processor clocked at 2.4GHz with 2MB cache, 8GB of RAM, a massive 500GB hard disk drive, onboard Intel HD graphics, a DVD writer, a 15.6in 1,366 x 768 pixels, GbE port, Wi-Fi, two USB 3.0 and one USB 2.0 ports, VGA and HDMI connectors, a card reader and a webcam .

Compared to say, a Core i3 processor with the same clock speed and the same architecture (Sandy Bridge), the B980 has a different instruction set extension (AVX vs SSE 4.x), a better graphics (Intel HD Graphics 3000), Hyper-Threading and Virtualisation as well as a number of Core-only features.
