Earlier in the week, top Samsung exec JK Shin put mobile enthusiasts on red alert, teasing that the hotly tipped Galaxy S4 was coming "soon."
Now, new reports from the SamMobile fan community claim to have pinned down some specifics regarding the eagerly anticipated handset's upcoming launch.
According to the website's loose-lipped "insiders," the Galaxy S4 has shifted its codename to Altius – replacing the previous Project J moniker – and will begin shipping in "week 16," or from April in Gregorian terms.
SamMobile went on to speculate that while a launch at February's Mobile World Congress could still be on the cards, a separate Samsung Mobile Unpacked event in March was also a strong possibility. London, New York, and Seoul - or all three, for that matter - were mooted as host city candidates.
Shortly after, a Korean news site broke cover with speculative reports that Samsung was ironing out plans for a US Mobile Unpacked event to be held on 22 March. Coincidence?
Elsewhere, the latest gossip points to the Galaxy S4 coming with wireless charging support, albiet not fully integrated as found on the Nokia Lumia 920.
Instead, Samsung is apparently poised to sell a wireless charging kit comprising a separate dock and special back cover. It is thought that the accessories will arrive a couple of weeks after the device itself.
To our mind, the photo (see top image, left vs Galaxy S3) is about as authentic as the Thai green curry down the average local boozer, but it's always nice to have a visual aid to help stimulate the imaginative process.
