It says something about how technology has evolved over the past decade when you can buy a decent monochrome laser printer for the price of five pints of beer.
Ebuyer sells the Ricoh SP100e mono laser printer for £19.98, a price that excludes delivery. Since you get that for free for orders above £50, we’d suggest that you stock up by buying three printers in one go (that’s £59.94) and then discarding or selling two of them on eBay after having removed the toner. More on that later.
The printer – which has a relatively small footprint and weighs a mere 6.2Kg - is rated at 13 pages per minutes with the first page out in less than 13 seconds. It has a 16MB buffer memory and a print resolution of 1,200 x 600 dpi.
Other noteworthy features include a 50 sheet standard paper capacity, USB 2.0 and a monthly duty cycle of around 300 pages per month which should be enough for a small office.
As for the price of the toner cartridge, eBuyer sells it for £43.49, more than twice the price of the printer itself which leaves us to believe that the toner bundled with that printer is a “starter model”.
