A four-year Microsoft Office 365 University subscription costs £59.99, that’s less than £15 per year to equip two PCs or Macs plus select mobile devices.
The service provides access to full Office applications (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook, Onenote, Publisher and Access) as well as an additional 20GB of Skydrive cloud-based storage to store, edit and share documents online.
In addition, Microsoft is bundling 60 minutes of Skype calls each months to phone in more than 40 countries. Note that the offer is valid for university, college students, faculty and staff only and only works if you have an “ac.uk” email.
Microsoft officially announced Office Home and Student 2013 and Office 365 Home Premium for £110 and £80 per year respectively.
The second iteration includes the same seven applications as Office 365 University and can be used on up to five PCs and Macs in one household.
One could argue that you can get free substitutes for all of the above, like OpenOffice.org. None however are as integrated or user friendly as Microsoft's solution.
