Carphone Warehouse has put the just-announced BlackBerry Z10 smartphone on sale for £480, a price that includes delivery. The device is unlocked and available in black and white and you don’t need to buy a top up voucher unlike the Z10 in stock at traditional mobile phone operators.
The phone was unveiled yesterday at a special event that saw RIM give up on its name and adopt BlackBerry as its new company name. A number of news outlets have pointed out to the uncanny resemblance between the Z10 and another popular handset, Apple’s very own iPhone 5.
According to BlackBerry, it has been redesigned from ground up and reengineered, adopting some features from competing handsets. It is powered by a dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon SoC clocked at 1.5GHz, the same that runs the Nokia Lumia 920 but this one offers 4G LTE as well.
The Z10 also has a 4.2in display with a 1,280 x 720 resolution. 2GB of RAM, 16GB onboard storage, a microSD card slot, micro USB and micro HDMI ports, an 8-megapixel camera with a time shift mode and the ability to split the phone into two modes thanks to BlackBerry Balance.
Other Z10-only features include the Flow, BlackBerry Hub, BBM with video and the QNX-based BlackBerry OS.
