Temple Run 2 reaches record-breaking 50m download mark

Imangi Studios' Temple Run 2, the highly anticipated sequel to one of 2012's biggest mobile games, set a new record of 50 million iOS, Android, and Kindle downloads in 13 days.

That tops Angry Birds Space, which nabbed 50 million downloads over 35 days in April 2012.

Temple Run 2 was exclusively released on the App Store late on 16 January and reached the number one spot on the iOS charts overnight with six million downloads in 24 hours.

The game was later released on Google Play and the Amazon Marketplace. It is currently the top free app on Google Play.

The game's predecessor has been downloaded over 170 million times.

"Temple Run has evolved into something so much bigger than us," Keith Shepherd, co-founder of Imangi Studios, said in a statement. "The game has performed beyond our wildest dreams, and we are thrilled that gamers and fans have embraced Temple Run 2 in such a short period of time."

The sequel features new graphics, power-ups, achievements, alternate characters, special powers for each character, and new obstacles.
