Today's Tech: new Samsung Galaxy handsets, eye-catching iPhone 5 deal, and Dell goes private

If you didn't know already, today was Safer Internet Day, the tenth of its kind to raise awareness around child safety online. Campaign groups have used the occasion to highlight concerns about how children are educated on cyber dangers, with calls that children as young as five years old should be introduced to the issues around communicating on the web. "Young people tell us they are experiencing all sorts of new forms of abuse on a scale never before seen," the NSPCC have warned. Read on for more on the subject.

Following several weeks of rumours, Dell confirmed today that it is going private in a deal worth $24.4 billion (£15.5 billion). The buyout will take the Round Rock, Texas-based company off the publicly traded stock market, leaving it instead under the ownership of its founder, chairman and CEO Michael Dell and investment firm Silver Lake. Dell will keep his position as the firm's chairman and chief executive, though it's unclear at this point what kind of repercussions the buyout will have on the company's structure, if any. The Samsung Galaxy family continues to breed prolifically, with the Korean tech titan recently confirming a further two additions to its popular handset range. Aimed at the youth market, the Samsung Galaxy Young and Galaxy Fame are loosely styled on the manufacturer's now-iconic Galaxy S3 device, featuring similar rounded corners but a more compact form factor. And the Galaxy ranks could be set to swell even further in the near future, with rumours pointing to a potential MWC debut for the Galaxy Q - a foldable, dual-screen device featuring Samsung's flexible Youm display technology.
