ElectronicEmpire sells the Panasonic DMR-HW200 PVR for £179. This compares very well with what RicherSounds charges (£220) although you can add a five year warranty on the latter for under £22.
This top of the range personal video recorder comes with two Freeview+ HD tuners and a massive 1TB hard disk drive that can house 518 hours of SD or 259 hours of HD programme (that’s either three weeks or 10 days’ worth of content).
You will also be able to add even more storage capacity thanks to a USB port that allows you to connect an external hard disk drive. Given that you can get 3TB models for as little as £90, that’s an option worth considering.
The PVR also offers Viera Connect which provides with a wide range of Apps and according to Panasonic “enhanced connectivity”. The DMR-HW200 comes with DLNA compatibility, optional Wi-Fi connectivity (via an expensive dongle), Wi-Fi, a fast-access EPG and a sleek piano black design.
This Panasonic DVR compares very well with the competition. The Humax HDR-FOX T2/1TB PVR for example retails for £240 at Play.com, which is 28 per cent more expensive.
