Novatech and PC World sell the Gigabyte GV-N650OC-1GI and the PNY BF650IGTX1GEPB graphic cards for £80. Both of these are based on the Nvidia Geforce GTX 650 GPU and come with 1GB of GDDR5 memory as well as a downloadable voucher of Assassin’s Creed 3 which is worth £23 on its own at Amazon.
The Gigabyte model appears to be the better one since its GPU is overclocked by default to 1.1GHz compared to 1.058GHz for the Nvidia model. The memory clock speed for both cards is 5GHz.
In addition, the Gigabyte model supports four displays (thanks to two DVI ports, a VGA one and a HDMI), that’s morewhat the PNY offers (mini HDMI and two DVI ports).
Both require at least a 400W PSU, a 6-pin power connector plus a dual-slot configuration to accommodate for the oversized heatsink fan on these cards. It’s worth noting though that the PNY card comes with a three year warranty, one more than the Gigabyte card.
The latter claims to use high quality components (Ferrite Core Chokes, Low RDS (on) MOSFET and Lower ESR Solid Capacitors to improve reliability) as well as gold plated HDMI ports and a new overclocking application called OC GURU II.
