The Huawei Ascend P1 was unveiled nearly a year ago at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. This smartphone belongs to the exclusive club, alongside the Apple iPhone 5 and the Sony Xperia Z amongst others, of smartphones with a thickness of 8mm or less.
It is currently on sale at Expansys for £192 (including delivery) down from its normal retail price of £240. You need to enter the code ASCEND40 at check out and use Google Checkout to get a combined discount of £48.
The phone runs on a dual-core TI OMAP 4460 system on chip clocked at 1.5GHz. There’s 1GB of RAM, 4GB of onboard storage which can be upgraded via a microSD card.
Other features include a 4.3in 960 x 540 pixel Super AMOLED display covered with a Gorilla Glass layer, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, an 8-megapixel camera, a front-facing 1.3-megapixel one, a 1,670mAh battery, Android 4.0 ICS and Huawei’s own proprietary 3D home launcher UI.
The Chinese manufacturer, which is now considered as device maker to reckon with, launched two handsets earlier this year in Las Vegas at CES, the Ascend D2 and the Ascend Mate, and is likely to unveil a few more devices at MWC (including the Ascend P2, the Ascend W1) later this month.
