Toshiba has announced that its flagship Ultrabook notebooks will now ship with access to the newest edition of the McAfee Anti-Theft security software.
The company said that customers purchasing Ultrabooks before 31 March 2013 will have free access the software for a year following registration and activation. The offer is valid for the Ultrabook Satellite U840, U940, U840W, Z930/Z830 and Portégé Z930/Z830 models. In addition, the convertible Ultrabook Satellite U920, a tablet- laptop hybrid, will also be eligible.
McAfee Anti-Theft software links its sophisticated security features with the devices' hardware-enabled security to keep stored data safe should the laptop be lost or stolen. The software also enables consumers to track their lost or stolen Ultrabook devices and lock them with remote access in order prevent unauthorised access.
The software can be managed using a web-based portal that allows users to lock the device, as well as view a map of its recent location history. McAfee Anti-Theft uses available Wi-Fi, GPS and 3G data to pinpoint and track eligible Ultrabooks.
"Toshiba has always strived to give customers a reliable experience, and by offering McAfee's latest software we're making it even more secure too," said Matt McDowell, marketing director for Toshiba Europe GmbH.
"We want to give Toshiba customers additional peace of mind when using their Ultrabook, particularly as many now use their devices outside of the home, both for work and in their spare time," McDowell added.
