We’re between two minds when it comes to laptops like the HP Pavilion G6-2244SA. This is a refurbished ruby red laptop that is available from Currys for £299 online (or £350 instore), It comes with a full one year warranty and should be in pristine/brand new condition.
What bothers us is the fact that it comes with an AMD E2-1800 APU (Application Processing Unit) which is essentially a CPU that’s coupled with a GPU (in this case the Radeon HD 7340). The E2-1800 has two cores, 1MB of L2 cache and is clocked at 1.7GHz. It will not set the world on fire although, truth be said, it is certainly better than most Atoms on the market.
As for the laptop itself, it runs on Windows 8, has 8GB of RAM, a massive 1TB of RAM, HDMI, two USB 3.0 ports, a microSD card slot, a TrueVision HD webcam, a 15in 1,366 x 768 pixels display, a DVD writer, a VGA port, island style keyboard, a dedicated numeric keyboard and up to 6.5 hours battery life thanks to a 6-cell Li-Ion polymer battery.
As expected, it is way thicker than your average Ultrabook size laptops at 36mm but is not that much heavier at 2.5Kg.
