Tesco Direct is selling a 50in plasma television, the Viera TX-P50X50B, for as little as £378. That’s a staggering £119 less than its previous selling price. It comes with 378 Nectar points but doesn’t include postage and packaging. You can collect that product instore but you would certainly need to have a fairly big vehicle to do so.
The TX-P50X50B has, as its low price would indicate, a 1,024 x 768 pixel resolution (that’s native) with HD content being rescaled. It doesn’t have advanced features like picture in picture, the ability to record content (PVR), Wi-Fi, DLNA or Smart TV capabilities.
The panel has a refresh rate of 600Hz and the TV itself comes with an optical digital audio output, Dolby Digital capabilities and two 10W speakers. There’s also two HDMI ports, a SCART socket, component in, a USB port and a SD card slot.
That television will be ideal for those looking for a “cheap” large screen display to be used as a secondary screen (for gaming or for the (rather large) bedroom. Note that the description also mentions a Freeview HD TV tuner but we’re highly dubious that this is the case.
