On your orangutan, Guy Dangerous – the iconic Sonic the Hedgehog is setting his speedy sights on the endless runner segment and will race onto the iOS App Store at midnight tonight (6 March).
After a couple of days of teasing, Sega has now apparently confirmed that Sonic Dash will hit the App Store in the coming hours, where it will retail for £1.49.
In addition to featuring a retro-tinged title screen (see image, top), Sonic Dash will see mobile gamers guide the spiky blue blob through a treacherous landscape chock-full of enemies and obstacles. Swipe the screen to launch yourself over or slide under the various hazards, or go into overdrive with the Dash boost and watch Sonic charge fearlessly through all barriers.
As is customary in Sonic games, you'll collect rings throughout your manic sprinting endeavours. The virtual dosh will be exchangeable for things like extra lives, head starts, and power-ups, while you can top up your bank balance via in-app purchases.
Gamers who tire of Sonic's antics will be pleased to note there will also be the option of switching to play as sidekick Tails, rival Knuckles, or prickly muse Amy.
While an Android version of the game has not yet been confirmed, we fully expect a multi-platform release for Sonic Dash, so stay tuned for more news as and when it becomes available.
