£252 HP 655 Laptop: One of the cheapest Windows 8 laptops on the market

The HP 655 laptop is currently on promotion at online retailer Misco. HP is giving a £100 cashback that brings down the price of the product from £352 to £252 excluding delivery.

The notebook runs on an AMD processor, the E2-1800, one which has two cores, is clocked at 1.7GHz, has 2MB L2 cache and is paired with 4GB of RAM. Other notable features include a 15.6in 1,366 x 768 pixel display, a full size keyboard, a webcam, a 500GB hard disk drive, three USB ports, Wi-Fi, a DVD-Writer, a 6-cell battery that can power it for up to six hours, Bluetooth 4.0 but no numeric keypad.

What sets the HP 655 from the rest of the competition at this price though, other than the fact that it has a powerful GPU (the AMD Radeon HD model) is the fact that it runs Windows 8 Professional, not Windows 8. This alone is worth around £100.

Although the processor is not as powerful as Intel’s Core range, it should be more than enough for mundane, standard Office tasks (browsing the web, doing some word processing).

Other laptops that we have managed to track for less than £300 include the Packard Bell EasyNote TE11, the HP Pavilion G6 and the Asus K55A.
