Argos is selling the popular Asus K55A for £274 including 270 Nectar points and includes delivery. The laptop is refurbished but comes with a one-year warranty.
It features a dual-core Celeron B830 processor, 6GB of RAM, 1TB hard disk drive, a 15.6in 1,366 x 768 pixel display, shared Intel GMA graphics, a card reader, three USB ports, a HDMI port, Bluetooth, an Ethernet port and audio connectors as well.
There’s also a webcam, a DVD writer and the whole thing is powered by Windows 8. The device weighs in at 3.2Kg with a thickness of 26mm. We’ve noted that laptops tend to be significantly thicker and heavier at the entry level, certainly because slim-and-light still carry a (significant) premium.
The arrival of the MacBook Air five years ago and the subsequent launch of the Intel Ultrabook programme have popularized the ultra-portable form factor, pushing it towards mainstream.
We’ve noted that the average price of entry level Ultrabooks had fallen to around £400, which could well mark a massive shift from traditional thick-and-heavy laptops to thin-and-light ones even if it means losing a bit on the hardware specification.
