HTC Windows Phone 8S now available from £150

High street mobile phone retailer Phones4U is offering the HTC Windows Phone 8S for a mere £150 on PAYG when you buy £10 airtime from all the major mobile phone operators (excluding Three). The offer, which represents a saving of up to 70) comes with a year’s worth of free Wi-Fi.

Like the Nokia Lumia 620, the Windows Phone 8S comes with a dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon system-on-chip clocked at 1GHz. There’s also a 5-megapixel camera with a dedicated button, a 4in Super LCD display with a 800 x 480 pixel resolution and a layer of Gorilla Glass, Beats Audio technology, Bluetooth, GPS, a microSD card slot, 512MB of RAM and 8GB onboard storage.

As for all other Windows Phone 8 devices, you get nice little touches like Live Tiles or 7GB storage on Skydrive. However the Windows Phone 8S will have a hard time against the likes of the Nokia Lumia 620 (cheaper but also equipped with exclusive Nokia apps) or the Huawei Ascend W1 which is also much cheaper.

We expect Microsoft to become a bit more flexible in its licensing approach if it wants to convince Sony (and other lesser known manufacturers) to jump on the bandwagon.
