£180 Nokia Lumia 900: The swan song of a fantastic smartphone

Nokia’s Lumia 800 smartphone was one of the few really ground-breaking non-iPhone designs of the last few years. The Lumia 900 perfects this design and enhances it. Tesco Mobile now sells it on PAYG for a mere £180 with 180 Clubcard points and free delivery.

The handset, which now runs on Windows Phone 7,8, comes with a single-core Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8255T clocked at 1.4GHz, 512MB of RAM, 16GB onboard storage, an 8-megapixel camera with dual LED flash, HD recording, FM Radio, a 4.3in 800 x 480 AMOLED display with ClearBlack technology and a layer of Corning Gorlla glass, a 1,830,mAh battery, a front-facing camera and up to seven hours talk time.

Note that the phone is locked on Tesco Mobile which is an O2 MVNO. You should therefore be able to run it on O2 and Giff Gaff.

Whether or not the Lumia 900 is the right deal for you depends on whether you prefer form over function as the latest generation of mainstream Nokia Lumia handsets, the 620 and the 720, are capable of rivalling the Lumia 900 although the latter would still have the upper hand when it comes to the design and build quality.

The other aspect to bear in mind is that the Lumia 900 won’t receive any further software upgrades. Check out the reviews of the Nokia Lumia 800 and the Lumia 900 smartphones here.
