Cisco launches BIG Awards 2013

Tech giant Cisco officially launched the BIG Awards contest yesterday at an event at Swiss Re’s headquarters (commoinly known as the Gherkin), in London.

Registration for the second edition of the awards has already opened and interested parties can sign up for it until 21 June 2013. The X-factor style finals (with a panel of judges and crowd vote) will take place on 14 November 2013 with six finalists.

The British Innovation Gateway, as it is called, is an initiative that Cisco launched back in 2011 and will see the US company invest $500 million in human resources, money and technology.

You can find more information about the event on the BIG Awards official website and it is worth noting that entries will need to fit in four categories (BIG Data, Collaboration, Internet of Things and Mobility).

We interviewed the winner of last year’s BIG Awards, Jenny Griffiths, founder and CEO of Snap Fashion, who was presented with a $100,000 cheque and a mentoring package worth over $75,000. Other similar schemes in the UK include Telefonica’s Wayra and Orange’s “different business”.

Desire worked at ITProPortal right at the beginning and was instrumental in turning it into the leading publication we all know and love today. He then moved on to be the Editor of TechRadarPro - a position he still holds - and has recently been reunited with ITProPortal since Future Publishing's acquisition of Net Communities.
