Ebay’s Bargain Hardware sells a Dell PowerEdge 1U rack server SC1425 for £80, one that carried a SRP of more than £2,000 originally.
Launched in 2005, it comes with two single-core Intel Xeon 3.4GHz (either based on the Nocona or Irwindale core, with either 1MB or 2MB L2 cache and a TDP of either 103W or 110W).
There’s an Intel E7520 chipset, 8GB PC2-3200 DDR2 ECC RAM (clocked at 400MHz and spread over six DIMM slots), a dual channel SATA controller with two SATA caddies (but no hard drives), IPMI 1.5 compliant Baseboard Management Controller, an embedded ATI/AMD Radeon 7000M video card with 16MB memory, two Intel GbE NICs with failover support and a non-redundant 450W PSU.
Expansion capabilities include one PCI-X slot (64bit/133MHz), four USB ports, two PS2, one serial and one VGA port. Note that this server doesn’t take SATA drives larger than 500GB and doesn’t come with an optical drive.
There’s no front plastic bezel/cover or rack rails included with the server. Want to see other cheap server bargains? Check out these three sub-£100 models that offer up to 16GB of RAM and four cores.
