Bargain Hardware, an eBay retailer, is selling the popular, but now obsolete HP ProLiant DL385 rack server for a mere £106 including delivery and 100 Nectar points. That server was launched back in September 2007.
This 2U server comes with two AMD Opteron 275 processors, each equipped with two cores clocked at 2.2GHz with 2MB L2 cache. We’re not sure whether it is the 68W, 85W or 95W model though.
Other features include 8GB PC-3200 400Mhz DDR ECC RAM spread over eight slots (none free), an integrated SCSI Ultra320 Smart Array 6i controller with 64MB RAM and 128MB Battery-Backed Write Cache (BBWC) Enabler, an integrated ATI Rage XL video controller with 8MB memory, a DVD-ROM drive, a floppy disk drive, an NC7782 PCI-X dual port GbE server adaptor and two 575W redundant hot-swappable PSUs.
Expansion capabilities include three 64bit PCI-X slots, three USB ports, two PS2 ports, VGA, ILO, two RJ45 Ethernet ports, four hard drive blanks and two hard drive caddies installed.
You should be able to upgrade the onboard system memory to 32GB. We've listed other similar priced, sub-£100 rack servers with up to 16GB of RAM here.
